My people have done two things wrong. They have abandoned me, the fountain of life-giving water, and they have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that can't hold water.
If you only knew who the gift of God is, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.
Everyone who drinks natural water will become thirsty again. But those who drink the living water that I will give them will never become thirsty again. This living water I will give them will become in them a spring that rushes up to eternal life.
Jesus was standing in the temple courtyard, and he cried out, whoever is thirsty must come to me to drink. Streams of living water will flow from deep within each person who believes in me.
Jesus said this about the Spirit (the Holy Ghost), whom those that believe on him would receive. The Spirit was not given to mankind yet, as the Comforter would come on the scene after Jesus had been glorified.
All must turn to God and change the way they think and act (repent), and each of us must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that our sins will be forgiven. Then we will receive a gift from God, the Holy Spirit (Comforter).
This promise belongs to us and to our children and to everyone who is far away. It belongs to everyone who follows God’s instructions.
This gift is greater than all the diamonds, gold, and money in the world. It is the fountain of Life Eternal.
